Interview with a Cosplayer has returned with more Cosplay greatness! Back in the Cosplay hotbed of Youngstown Ohio we meet fledgling Cosplayer Diamonds and Daggers. When we say fledgling we mean it only because of the amount of time she’s been at this. But when it comes to the skill level (and hotness level) she’s definitely got a fierceness about her that’ll make her star shine bright for years to come. Strap in and settle down prepare to have you’re mind blown!!!
What is the Cosplay scene like where you’re from?
The cosplay scene from around the area where I live near Youngstown Ohio USA is pretty interesting. You have some really amazing well known cosplayers like Knightmage and Super Kayce here and then you have people just starting to get into it and everyone in between. Everyone I have met around here is pretty posotive and super supportive of eachother. I have met some pretty incredible and talented people at local conventions.
What got you into the art of Cosplay?
I have always admired that people were able to transform themselves into their favorite characters, and I have always loved dressing up in costumes and acting onstage in high school plays. I always thought it was great fun to get into clothes and make up and become someone different. You sort of leave reality in a way by doing that. For me my cosplay days started about 3 years ago when I decided to try and go as Arkham City Harley Quinn for Halloween, and it was so well recieved by everyone I was ecouraged to go to my first comic convention in the same costume and well, the rest is history!!
Who are your favorite characters to Cosplay?
I have so many characters that I WANT to do versus who I have done so far. My main two favorites are my Harley Quinn and definately my Xena Warrior Princess Cosplay.
Who/What is your biggest inspiration?
Definitely Michael Wilson aka Knightmage. He is such an amazingly sweet person, he is so humble and talented ! He does so much charity work and promotes positivity within the cosplay community. He is truly an inspiration.
What are the Biggest cons in Ohio right now?
The biggest conventions near me would have to be All Ameri-con as far as locally goes. But I live close enough to attend Akron Comic Con, Steel City Con in Monroeville ,PA and Colossal Con in Sandusky Ohio. However I have not been able to attend Steel City con or Colossal Con yet but plan to do so hopefully next year.
Which one is your favorite?
My favorite so far absolutely has to be Akron comic con, but All Ameri-con definitely has a huge place in my heart as it’s my ‘hometown’ convention and just keeps getting bigger and better every year!
What are you in to right now?
As far as Anime I’m re-watching Rurouni Kenshin, I’m currently Playing Kingdom Hearts (again) and I’m currently Reading Smoke gets in your eyes & other lessons from the crematory by Caitlin Doughty
What is your favorite cosplay moment?
My favorite cosplay moment so far would have to be going to Akron Comic con for the first time with my best friend Many-Faced Cosplay dressed as Arkham Knight Harley Quinn and The Danny Devito version of the penguin and meeting tons of new awesome people.
What is your cosplay horror story?
My first horror story actually happened this past summer to me my 2nd day going to my local convention to meet up with some friends. I was dressed in my Xena cosplay and when I got out of my car I had accidentally shut the car door on my skirt and it had gotten stuck between the door. The skirt had come unzipped and I didn’t realize my skirt had come off until I started to walk away and felt a breeze! Thank Goodness I parked super far from the venue where just a few people may have gotten an accidental peep show, but it was super embarrassing!
Where do you see the art of Cosplay in the next 5-10 years?
I can only see Cosplay getting more and more popular as the years go by. People are always coming up with new, exciting and innovative ideas, so I am very interested to see all of that happen.WR
